You walk down a set of stairs into a brick building, they wind and have a metal railing
The bar is smoky, but not too smoky, the walls are lined with booths and candles
There's jazz in the corner and the round tables are packed tight
you might
have to dance in the back
with a glass of cognac

Focus your audio in order to learn how to know your groceries on how to be a shape in a drape-- Beatnik style. [beatnik slang:

Wanna feel like a cool cat + vibe some 50's that place you straight into modern times? Go Beatnik.
Beatniks were a social and literary movement-group of the 50's into the 60's, and while they participated in drug experimentation and progressive studies, they were separate from the Hippie movement in their art and poetry focus. It was more about expression for the Beatniks, than it was about political change.
A classic, easy Beatnik outfit is monochrome black. A beret always helps put a cap on that Poet-from-Paris I'm-too-romantic-for-my-own-good "look."
I went with a long sleeve knit tee
a black beret and hoop earrings
black pencil-fit slacks
pink socks and red flats (for my pop of color)-- lot's of beatniks went the all black route! Check Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face with her black loafers + all black black ensemble

She is wearing white socks with loafers!! Audrey is my #1 style icon; this movie and look is my main inspiration and motivation to pair my socks with my loafers and flats.

This movie is on Netflix and SO worth watching. If you've got time over your break, watch it and let me know what you think!! I'm always reachable here on on my insta. <3

[SPOILERS] One thing I love so much about this movie is Fred Astaire and his character, who is a fashion photographer. He and a fashion magazine parade into a modest book-store, mess up all the books to take glamorous and vapid photos. Audrey's character tries to stop them- but to no avail - she speaks of philosophical pursuits; she is a sensible and modest gal.

Fred Astaire sees something more. He sees her face, and calls it funny, but funny as in different and different as in beautiful and worth capturing.
They go to Paris for a photo shoot and Audrey agrees-- she knows there will be some opportunities to meet with philosophers-- one specifically who speaks on Empathicalism.
She runs off to a bar -- she dances -- not a beautiful dance but one of pure expression!! It's wild and silly and fun.

He hunts her down to bring her back.

I won't say any more of the movie!! Because you need to watch it. I hope I've given enough to spark an interest --- and I hope I haven't given too much away.
I've linked the bar scene though, in case that's all you're interested in:

Wally came by to make her usual cameo

What I appreciate so much about the Beatnik movement is the art, poetry, and philosophy it centered around.
2 major poets include:
Jack Kerouac
Allen Ginsberg
Beatnik philosophies:
"anti materialism, anti-capitalist and anti-authoritarian" -- today's liberal or center-left Democrat (source: https://www.beatnikshoes.com/en/who-were-the-beatniks/)

So, think a scruffy all black look with an anti-oppressive attitude, and you'll be good to go.
Thanks for checking my blog out!!
Hope you go watch Funny Face <3

always ur fashion gal
